Emergency medical training saves lives—but access to that training shouldn't depend on ability to pay. At EMIC, we believe life-saving skills belong in every community, regardless of economic barriers. Through strategic partnerships, pro bono programs, and humanitarian medical coordination, we're working to make emergency preparedness accessible to everyone while supporting families facing impossible medical crises.
Our Commitment: Reinvesting in Community
Although EMIC is a for-profit company, nearly 60% of our profits are reinvested directly into the community through free training programs, pro bono medical coordination, and partnerships that expand access to life-saving education. This isn't charity—it's our mission. We built EMIC on the principle that emergency preparedness should be accessible to everyone, and we're committed to making that vision a reality.
Since our founding, we've trained over 132 community members through free CPR and first aid programs, coordinated life-saving medical care for children in international medical crises, and partnered with healthcare organizations to deliver specialized training to families who need it most. Every dollar we reinvest, every hour we donate, and every family we support represents our commitment to a simple principle: knowledge through experience should be available to all.
The Zain Xander Foundation Partnership: When a Child Needs Help, We Answer
EMIC's partnership with the Zain Xander Foundation represents our most impactful humanitarian work. Together, we provide comprehensive medical coordination for children facing life-threatening conditions that cannot be treated in their home countries. This isn't about providing medical care ourselves—it's about using our expertise in emergency medical systems, international coordination, and healthcare navigation to ensure that every child with a serious illness receives the treatment they need, regardless of geographic or economic barriers.
The Alia Case: Turning an Impossible Situation into Hope
In October 2025, EMIC became aware of Alia, an infant in Guyana who required a life-saving surgical procedure unavailable locally. When local medical facilities advised seeking care abroad, Alia's family faced an impossible barrier: they lacked the medical expertise, logistical knowledge, and financial resources to navigate international treatment independently. The estimated cost for U.S.-based care was $2.4 to $2.7 million USD—an insurmountable sum for a family already facing a medical crisis.
EMIC stepped in to provide comprehensive medical coordination, entirely pro bono. We began with a thorough medical assessment, coordinating with physicians to understand Alia's condition and determine the most appropriate treatment pathway. After evaluating options worldwide, we identified India as a medically appropriate and financially accessible alternative, where the same life-saving procedure could be performed at a fraction of the U.S. cost.
Our team facilitated every aspect of the journey: hospital placement, medical documentation transfer, alignment of clinical expectations between Guyanese and Indian physicians, fundraising guidance, international travel planning, visa and immigration support, and pre-travel preparation including lodging coordination and vaccination checklists. Throughout Alia's treatment, we maintained daily communication with the family, coordinated medical updates, and provided support for housing and essential needs in a foreign country.
The result: Alia received life-saving care for approximately $32,000 USD—less than 1.5% of the original U.S. estimate. The estimated market value of EMIC's coordination services alone was $95,000 to $165,000 USD, all provided entirely pro bono. More importantly, a child who faced an impossible medical crisis received the care she needed, and a family navigating the most difficult moment of their lives had expert guidance every step of the way.
HeyDocta Partnership: Creating Pathways to Care
Building on the success of the Alia case, EMIC established a formal partnership with HeyDocta to create a structured pathway for children under sixteen years old in Guyana to access lifesaving and advanced medical care overseas when such care is not available locally. This humanitarian partnership is entirely non-financial—EMIC provides all logistical and planning services at no cost to HeyDocta, patients, or their families.
Our role includes international medical coordination (liaison with hospitals and surgeons worldwide), travel and immigration support, pre-travel preparation, real-time case management throughout treatment and recovery, fundraising support for families, and post-treatment planning including follow-up care coordination. We don't provide medical care ourselves—we provide the expertise, coordination, and advocacy that makes accessing that care possible for families who would otherwise have no pathway forward.
Community CPR Programs: Putting Life-Saving Skills in Every Neighborhood
Cardiac arrest doesn't discriminate based on income, and neither should access to CPR training. EMIC's community CPR programs are built around a simple mission: put life-saving skills into the hands of everyday people, regardless of their ability to pay. Through strategic partnerships with local businesses and organizations, we bring free, hands-on CPR and AED training directly into neighborhoods, reducing barriers to access and strengthening community preparedness.
Allstate Community CPR Partnership: Bi-Weekly Training in Schenectady
EMIC partners with the local Allstate office of Randy Pascarella to provide bi-weekly CPR and life-saving skills classes to the Schenectady community. These classes, held the 1st and last Thursday of every month, are designed to make high-quality, hands-on training accessible to families, professionals, and community members in a comfortable neighborhood setting.
We offer two tracks: Community CPR & AED (100% free, awareness-based training for families and caregivers) and American Heart Association BLS Provider certification (official AHA certification for healthcare professionals). The community track is completely free—no certification required, no fees, just hands-on instruction in adult, child, and infant CPR, AED use, choking relief, and emergency scene awareness.
By partnering with trusted local businesses like Allstate, we bring training directly into neighborhoods, reduce barriers to access, strengthen community preparedness, and increase survival from cardiac arrest and choking emergencies. Classes are taught by experienced instructors with backgrounds in EMS, fire service, and law enforcement. No prior medical experience is required for the community course.
Union College Partnership (2019-2025): Training the Next Generation
Through our successful partnership with Union College's Kenney Center for Community Engagement and Outreach, EMIC provided accessible CPR training to over 500 community members, including students and Schenectady residents. This initiative strengthened campus safety and empowered the community with life-saving skills during its six-year tenure.
We provided free CPR training to students and Schenectady residents, customized training for student organizations, and professional development for campus staff. The partnership demonstrated that when you remove financial barriers and bring training directly to where people are, you can dramatically expand access to life-saving education. Over 500 people who might never have sought out CPR training on their own now have the skills to save a life.
MVP Health Care Partnership: Specialized Training for New Parents
EMIC has partnered with MVP Health Care to bring specialized first aid training to families and caregivers throughout the region. Our "New Parent and Caregiver First Aid" course is designed specifically for new parents, guardians, and caregivers who want to be prepared for pediatric emergencies.
Participants learn essential first aid techniques tailored to infants and children, including CPR, choking relief, wound care, and recognition of common pediatric emergencies. The course emphasizes hands-on training for pediatric emergencies, confidence-building techniques for caregivers, recognition of warning signs and appropriate response, and practical skills for real-world situations.
Pediatric emergencies are terrifying for parents and caregivers, especially when you don't know what to do. By partnering with MVP Health Care, we're reaching families at a critical moment—when they're preparing for a new child or taking on caregiving responsibilities—and giving them the skills and confidence to respond effectively if an emergency occurs.
Why We Do This: The Philosophy Behind EMIC's Philanthropy
EMIC was founded by an experienced paramedic and emergency medical educator who spent years working in the field, responding to cardiac arrests, traumatic injuries, and medical emergencies. That experience taught a fundamental truth: survival often depends on what happens in the first few minutes, before professional help arrives. Bystander CPR doubles or triples survival from cardiac arrest. Immediate hemorrhage control saves lives in traumatic injuries. Recognition of pediatric emergencies and appropriate response prevents tragedy.
But here's the problem: access to quality emergency medical training is often limited by cost, geography, and awareness. Commercial training centers charge hundreds of dollars for certification courses. Rural communities lack local training options. Families facing medical crises abroad have no idea how to navigate international healthcare systems. And the people who need training most—low-income families, community members without healthcare backgrounds, parents in underserved neighborhoods—are the least likely to access it.
EMIC's philanthropy work is our answer to that problem. We built a sustainable business model that allows us to offer the lowest rates in New York State for professional certification courses, then reinvest a majority of our profits into free community programs, pro bono medical coordination, and partnerships that expand access. We don't do this for recognition or tax benefits—we do it because it's the right thing to do, and because we have the expertise to make a real difference.
Measuring Impact: Lives Changed, Communities Strengthened
The true measure of our philanthropy work isn't dollars donated or hours volunteered—it's lives changed and communities strengthened. Alia received life-saving care that would have been impossible without EMIC's coordination. Over 132 community members now have CPR skills they can use to save a neighbor, coworker, or family member. Hundreds of Union College students graduated with life-saving skills they'll carry for the rest of their lives. New parents throughout the region have the confidence to respond if their child faces a medical emergency.
We've received feedback from community members who used their CPR training to save lives. We've heard from parents who successfully managed pediatric emergencies because they remembered what they learned in our courses. We stay in touch with families we've helped coordinate international medical care for, celebrating milestones and recovery. These stories remind us why we do this work, and they motivate us to expand our reach even further.
Looking Forward: Expanding Our Impact
EMIC's philanthropy work is growing. We're exploring new partnerships with community organizations, schools, and healthcare providers to expand access to free training. We're working to formalize our international medical coordination program so we can help more families facing impossible medical crises. And we're continuously looking for ways to reinvest more of our profits into community programs without compromising the quality and sustainability of our business.
Our goal is simple: make emergency preparedness accessible to everyone. That means free community CPR classes in every neighborhood. It means pro bono medical coordination for families facing international medical crises. It means partnerships that bring specialized training to new parents, caregivers, and community members who need it most. And it means continuing to operate with the lowest overhead in the industry so we can reinvest as much as possible into the communities we serve.
How You Can Get Involved
EMIC's philanthropy work is possible because of community support. If you're interested in partnering with us to bring free CPR training to your neighborhood, workplace, or organization, we want to hear from you. If you know a family facing an international medical crisis and need coordination support, contact us—we provide these services entirely pro bono. If you're a healthcare organization interested in partnering to expand access to specialized training, let's talk.
And if you're simply looking for high-quality, affordable emergency medical training for yourself or your team, choosing EMIC supports our community programs. Every certification course we teach, every department training contract we fulfill, and every dollar we earn goes right back into expanding access to life-saving education for those who need it most.
Knowledge Through Experience, Accessible to All
EMIC's tagline is "Knowledge Through Experience"—we believe the best emergency medical training comes from instructors who have been there, who have responded to real emergencies, and who understand what it takes to save a life under pressure. But knowledge isn't worth much if it's only accessible to those who can afford it.
That's why we're committed to making our expertise, our experience, and our training accessible to everyone—through free community programs, pro bono medical coordination, strategic partnerships, and a business model that prioritizes community impact over profit maximization. Emergency preparedness shouldn't be a luxury. Life-saving skills shouldn't depend on ability to pay. And families facing impossible medical crises shouldn't have to navigate complex international healthcare systems alone.
At EMIC, we're working to make sure they don't have to. Join us in our mission to empower communities with life-saving skills and support families when they need it most.
